After landing at the airport, I took the Skybus into Melbourne's city centre. Spencer Street Station is not a good advertisement for the city! I really felt I'd been dumped in the middle of nowhere. So as usual, in a time of stress, I found somewhere to have a cup of tea and a cake. I bought myself a Metcard, a $46 ticket which allowed me to use public transport, buses, trams and trains, for a week, very good value. As well as spending time walking around the city, I took a few trips a bit further afield. St Kilda is only a tram ride away but it's always good to see the sea. I didn't feel I could join in with the salsa class taking place near the beach, not with my two left feet. But a bit further along, I bought a cup of very tasty 'hot chips'. After a few days in Melbourne, I'd almost forgotten (and forgiven!) the air steward who had spilt coffee on my arm, not once but twice, for goodness' sake! |
