At each stop along the Great Ocean Road, we felt the full force of the wind. Once, a small back animal skittered across the path in front of me, but I'll never know for certain what it was.

There were many signs warning us not to venture to close to the edge of the cliffs. And to illustrate just how fragile this coastline is, one feature, London Bridge, collapsed in 1990, stranding a couple of tourists!

It was surprisingly hard work, sitting in the car while Mike did all the driving. The trip was illustrated by his phenomenal local knowledge, of geology, history, flora and fauna and many, many stories from previous adventures with people from all over the world. I don't think any of his stories were libellous - and I remember thinking that perhaps we would evetually become the subjects of his on-the-road yarning... gulp.
